Dr.'s Office or Hospital: Which is better for minor surgery

It's Good to Know: Is It Better to Have Minor Surgery in the Doctor's Office or the Hospital?

It can be much more hazardous to have minor surgery in the doctor's office than in the hospital. According to a study conducted at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, the risk of adverse incidents, sometimes even death, was about 10 times greater in the office setting.

The most dangerous procedures are colonoscopies, endoscopies, and anything that requires anesthesia.

If you're considering having minor surgery in your doctor's office, make sure you weigh all the factors. Ask him what the risks are, and what kind of support is available if a problem does develop.
